THE FUE TRANSPLANT IN A NUTSHELL
FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction, is a hair implant technique very commonly used because of its simplicity and the lightness of the gesture.
It consists of a removal of follicles from the patient's donor area.
This extraction is carried out follicular unit by follicular unit. The follicular units are then injected into the patient's balding area using a small tool.
It is the most important innovation in the field of hair surgery, and today the technique giving the best results.
It has many advantages over previous methods:
The FUE technique is the most widespread today, its use can be indicated in the majority of cases.
FUE makes it possible to collect small amounts of hair for cases of scalp repair or very localized grafts (eyebrows, beard), but also large sessions in the case of advanced baldness.
Hair transplantation is not reimbursed by social security unless it is for non-aesthetic purposes (hair loss following burns, illnesses, etc.).
An evaluation consultation allows you to take stock of the hair loss and the extent of baldness and to take medical photographs before the transplant session, in order to project yourself and also compare with the results in the postoperative phase. .
10 days before the hair transplant, it is recommended to stop smoking, not to consume aspirin or anti-inflammatory.
An antiseptic shampoo must be applied the morning before the procedure.
FUE is performed under local anesthesia only. The injections are performed on the scalp and will allow it to relax. Once the effect of the anesthetic has worn off, there is usually no pain or discomfort.
The pose is performed in a seated position. The duration varies from 2 to 5 hours depending on the type of intervention envisaged and the importance of the alopecia to be filled.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
On each implant, a small crust forms and falls off after 7/10 days, which also causes the loss of new hair. The latter will begin to grow back during the third month following the intervention. It will then grow about 1 cm per month.
This intervention does not cause any scars, it does not require any hospitalization and the return to work is very fast (3/7 days off work).
Donor area shampoos are possible 48 hours after the operation.
In case of post-operative pain (uncommon), analgesics may be prescribed.
The results are always very satisfying. They are visible after the regrowth of the transplanted hair, namely between three and six months after the intervention. To obtain sufficient hair density, it may be necessary to repeat the procedure several times. However, the sessions must be spaced at least 6 months apart.
RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS
If the risks associated with FUE hair implants are low, it can rarely occur, in particular infections and / or necrosis of the scalp in the area of the wounds of the graft.
If the common side effects of hair transplantation do not improve after about a week, there may be an infection or the beginning of a necrotic process, then urgent medical attention is needed.
Infections are often caused by insufficient sterility of the instruments and devices used during transplantation or by non-compliance with hygiene requirements during healing. Thus, with a quality graft and good compliance with post-operative instructions, the risk of complications is low.
