What is FUT?FUT - or Follicular Unit Transplantation - is a hair transplant procedure that is used worldwide alongside FUE. FUT may also be known as FUSS or MFUT or Strip. Unlike FUE, FUT is a faster procedure. In FUT, the surgeon cuts off a small area of skin, takes the hair and transplants it into the desired area. The width of the incision is usually 1.5 cm. After suturing, the incision heals easily.
The FUT hair transplant method has many advantages over the FUE method:
- The FUT process allows the transplantation of a large number of
grafts in one session compared to the FUE procedure.
- The collection of grafts from the donor site is easier and more
efficient compared to the FUE procedure. This allows you to get a large
number of successful transplants. An experienced surgeon is able to
prepare between 7,000 and 12,000 grafts from a permanent donor site with the
FUT procedure compared to 3,000-6,000 with the FUE method.
- Studies show that the survival rate of follicles transplanted with
the FUT method is higher than with the FUE method, approaching 100%.
- With the FUT technique, the frequency of transection of individual
grafts is significantly lower, especially if an experienced surgeon uses modern
instruments and techniques such as the open donation technique and
stereomicroscopic preparation of grafts. In the case of the FUT method,
the cutting rate is 3%, which means that only three grafts out of every 100
grafts are cut. With the FUE method, the cutting frequency is several
times higher.
- The FUT procedure allows experienced surgical teams to complete the process in 3-4 hours. FUE procedures can take much longer.
There are, of course, also disadvanta
ges of the FUT hair
transplant procedure: - The postoperative recovery period is slightly longer. An
immediate sensation of numbness, slight pain, and a stretching sensation in the
back of the head may persist for a short period of time. In addition, in
the postoperative period for 2-3 weeks there will be some restrictions in physical
activity.
- With FUT hair transplantation, a small scar may remain at the site of the donor area.
