Hair micro-grafting uses 2 options for harvesting grafts:

FUT and FUE micro-grafting, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages.

1/ FUT: method of taking a strip of scalp secondarily cut into micro-grafts.

Technique

The strip is taken from behind the head, at the level of the crown, where the hair never falls. It is immediately cut into micro-grafts which will then be grafted at the level of the bald areas. The sampling area will be closed with a suture thread which will leave in place a thin, linear, transverse scar, easily concealed under hair if it is more than 1 cm long.

Advantages

It can always be achievable regardless of the extent of the baldness (from an early and limited stage to an advanced and extensive stage).

It makes it possible to transplant many hairs, up to 4500 in a single session and therefore to cover a large surface or several areas.

It is faster than the FUE unit sampling method.

It can be repeated several times (2, 3, even 4 sessions), depending on the flexibility of the scalp.

Disadvantages

It leaves a scar at the level of the donor area, very light, linear, very discreet and completely invisible under the hair.

2 / FUE: method of harvesting single grafts.

The grafts are taken one by one at the level of the crown, after complete shaving of a large surface to be able to take many grafts. Sampling is manual with a rotary motor instrument. Each graft will then be re-implanted in the bald area. There is no visible linear scar at the level of the donor area after taking the samples.

Advantages

The micro-scars left by the samples are almost invisible, even if the hair is short.

Disadvantages

It makes it possible to take only a limited number of grafts and therefore to cover only a limited surface. In 1 FUE session, the transplanted hair will be fewer than for 1 FUT session, at most 3000 hairs.

It is not suitable for wavy or curly hair.

It takes a very long time to do.

It cannot be repeated too many times at the risk of having a scalp in the donor area transformed into a scarring closet.

The need to shave a large surface of the scalp in the donor area, contraindicates this method in women, especially since its density is often low in cases of alopecia.

The FUE technique is finally indicated:

In the beginning forms, with a limited bald area.

In advanced and extended forms, after 2 to 3 FUT sessions, in order to perfect the results, in addition (especially in the frontal area and gulfs).

3 / Course of the session and follow-up

Whatever the sampling method used, the procedure will take place in the doctor's office, on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia.

The classic suites are marked by a possible edema of the forehead which will disappear after a few days.

A first gentle and delicate shampoo can be done 48 hours after the operation.

Sports activities can be resumed after 3 weeks.

The small scabs that will form at the base of the hair will fall off after 10 to 20 days. A certain number of grafted hairs will fall at the same time and then grow back between the 3rd and 6th month of the intervention.

The final result will be seen after 9 to 12 months after the operation.
