How is a hair transplant operation performed?
Hair transplantation is performed with implants. This kind of intervention is done through three different methods. One can choose the FUT technique, the FUE method and the DHI.
If the FUT method is chosen, the hair transplant takes place in a more surgical way. The patient is under local anesthesia. The operation involves cutting a strip of skin from the back of the head that contains enough hair. Once the cut is made, we close the part. This strip of skin will be reused on the bald part of the head. This surgical operation leaves scars on the skin. It is for this reason that this type of intervention is more suitable for women than for men thanks to their long hair. The scars remain invisible, because they can be camouflaged by the hair.
The FUE hair transplant method or Follicular Unit Extraction consists of removing microscopic hair quantities called micro pellets from a few follicles. We transfer in front of the head all the micro pads which are behind. The transfer is done by planting by making small holes. A cutting operation is not performed in an FUE method. It's just an operation to remove follicles from the back of the skull that are implanted in the front. This technique is less painful and does not leave a scar like the previous one.
More recent, the DHI method is a hair transplant technique quite similar to the FUE method, but it is a little more improved. The bulbs are removed simultaneously and manually. The sampling tools are very fine. This operation requires much more precision than the FUE and FUT method. The gestures must be well done to obtain a satisfactory result. The DUI method guarantees a maximum regrowth rate and gives natural and perfect hair. Like FUE , DHI is painless, hospitalization-free, and anesthesia-free. This method provides the patient with more density and beautiful hair. Moreover, during the hair transplant operation, the surrounding follicles are hardly affected.
The duration of a hair transplant
When deciding to have a hair implant , always ask about the duration of the operation. The latter is simple and less invasive, but still takes time. It lasts an average of 6 hours. Various factors can influence the time allotted to this type of intervention. These are among others the degree of baldness, the procedure used and the duration of action of local anesthesia.
For the patient's level of baldness, a transplant of 2500 follicular units requires about 3 hours for a hair transplant operation. But it also depends on the quality of the patient's hair and the elasticity of the scalp. In case the patient's bald area is large, a large number of follicular units is required. This will make the process longer. Regarding local anesthesia, it can take 5 minutes. Once the scalp is completely anesthetized, the doctor goes through the removal of the follicular units. The latter take between 2 and 3 hours.
