FUE, what is it?

Twenty-five years ago, hair transplantation was performed using punches of 3 to 4 mm in diameter which very often gave unsightly results. We then moved on to the follicular transplant with the FUT technique. Since 1995, in order to avoid the linear scar, we managed to extract the follicle directly from the scalp, using a micro punch of 0.9 to 1.2 mm in diameter. The technique is called Follicular Unit Extraction. The technical difficulty is great, which is why it was necessary to develop appropriate instrumentation to achieve this result.

THE FUE allows an excellent distribution of the grip of the hair on the occipital collarette, which makes it more harmonious. This technique is highly recommended for patients who wish to have very short haircuts very quickly, those who need a small graft, eyebrow graft, very athletic patients who cannot reduce their physical activity too much.

FUE is an innovative and very efficient technique. It is a very precise surgery that every surgeon makes it a point of honor to include in his treatment panel. However, we must not forget the FUT which always has indications and requests.

I practice both techniques, so I adapt and advise the best to my patient, according to his wishes and his budget.

Thus, by harmoniously reducing the density of the donor zone while increasing that of the recipient zone, the distribution of the hair can be better balanced. This advantage is particularly interesting when the patient decides to wear extremely short hair over the entire scalp.

FUE is the appropriate technique for:

-Patients who wish to wear their hair very short in the donor area or who may be considering shaving their head one day as this technique leaves no visible scars.

-Patients who only need a small graft, for example to correct a facelift scar or for an eyebrow transplant.

-Patients who wish to hide the scar from a previous FUT hair transplant.

- Sports patients who cannot reduce their activity for too long.

Are you in pain after the operation?

When the anesthesia disappears, very little pain is felt. Simple analgesics such as paracetamol can completely control any pain sometimes present in the region where the sample was taken.

Patients sometimes express discomfort for the first 2 – 3 days at the level of the crown when they put their head on the cushion, but without real pain.

Can we leave immediately after the operation?

As a safety and precautionary measure, Doctor FEVRIER recommends that the patient stay 1 to 2 hours under surveillance at the CLEMENCEAU clinic before returning home. The return must be accompanied or by means of a taxi which will be ordered on site.

The clinic secretaries will be able to organize your transport, even if you arrive by train. A taxi will be waiting for you.

Can a hair transplant be done at any time of the year?

Yes. Generally, we recommend that the patient take a week off from their schedule. A hair transplant does not prevent a stay on vacation. However during the first 15 days it will be necessary to avoid putting the head under water (sea and swimming pool).

The grafted part will be protected from the sun for the first three months (wearing a cap).
