How is the FUE procedure performed?
Step 1 - Trimming and Checking
the Donor Area
The first step in the FUE hair transplant procedure is trimming
the hair on the head. The preferred length is 1-2 mm. After that, the
surgeon examines the donor area - on the scalp or elsewhere - using the
folliscope system. This allows the doctor to understand the health of the
hair in the donor area, its quantity, the quality of the follicular units and
Step 2 — Preparing the
The surgeon begins preparing
the recipient area for graft transplantation. Using needles specially
designed for this purpose, the doctor creates miniature holes into which the
grafts will be inserted. The diameter of the needles does not exceed 1 mm,
and they have depth gauges.
Step 3 — Counting Provisioned Sites
The number of places prepared for
transplantation is calculated to ensure the accuracy of the operation. For
this, a system developed by a doctor is used. This will also allow the patient
to be aware of how successful the operation has been
Step 4 - Excision of the graft
The surgeon begins to cut
individual grafts from the donor area. A special machine designed to
extract individual grafts allows you to perform the operation without leaving
Step 5 - Fixing the grafts
grafts are then placed in Petri dishes and secure containers that have been
prepared in advance. This is done in order to keep
the grafts alive and safe throughout the procedure. The containers have
been specially cleaned and prepared to ensure the safety of individual grafts
throughout the operation. The grafts are also inspected to make sure they
are a good fit for transplant.
Step 6 - Placement of Grafts
After fixation and inspection, a team of
experienced surgical assistants proceed to place the grafts in the prepared
area. This happens under the close
supervision of the chief physician and with his direct participation.
Step 7 - View Immediate Result
Upon completion of the
operation, the doctor analyzes the immediate result. This is also the time
for a final consultation, advice on physical activity and pain
management. Although the immediate results may not look as attractive as
we would like, the long-term results are excellent.
When is FUE of hair transplantion appropriate?
Whether a hair transplant procedure using follicular excision is
right for you or not depends on the
doctor's assessment. During the consultation, the doctor will assess the
stages of hair loss and determine whether FUE can be successfully applied to
achieve the desired results or not. Most FUE treatments are only done
if the hair loss is below a certain threshold. This ensures that
operations do not last many hours and can be carried out quickly. The
procedure is most effective in treating male pattern baldness as it moves the
hair from the thicker areas of the head at the back and sides to the front. FUE
can also be successfully applied to women facing a similar problem of hair loss.
