What is the difference between FUE and DHI?
The question comes up again during consultations, patients using these terms FUE and DHI sometimes inappropriately.
It must be said that the Internet is not there to clarify things, "professional" sites mixing brushes between these terms and sometimes using them erroneously.
To understand their meaning, you have to go back to the original meaning:
- FUE : Follicular Unit Extraction : This means that it is a Follicular Unit Extraction technique.
- DHI : Direct Hair Implantation : This is a hair implantation technique.
FUE is a different implantation technique from FUT ( Follicular Unit Transplantation ): otherwise known as the “ strip ” technique.
Therefore , in order not to confuse these 2 terms, the FUE technique is therefore an extraction technique , while the DHI technique is an implantation technique .
Thus a graft can be taken in FUE, and implanted in DHI.
The other technique of implantation is the realization of
- slits: by various tools: Needle Nokor, Blade Beaver, Blade Sapphire...
- Holes: by solid needles, hollow...
The most common implantation technique in this context is the slit technique using sapphire blades, it is also called FUE Sapphire .
The DHI implantation technique is a technique using the implanter pens , also called Choi implanters . Thus an implantation by choi implanters can be following a removal by FUE or FUT.
